The ancient practice of mindfulness meditation
is now rapidly becoming part of
mainstream psychology.
It has been found to be highly effective
in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR).
MBSR was originally developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn
at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester, MA.
MBSR courses are now offered in hundreds of hospitals
and other locations throughout North America and
in many other parts of the world.
I received training from Dr. Kabat-Zinn in 1993
and then started the first MBSR program in Minnesota
at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Mpls. MN.
I offered this program until 1999 when I retired.
I have personally practiced mindfulness meditation
for over 30 years and regard it as the single most
valuable skill I've ever acquired.
There is now abundant research findings that document
the effectiveness of MBSR in all of the following conditions:
