Should you setup a WordPress Blog for your business or should you setup squeeze pages and a lead capture system or both..? This is a great question that anyone looking to develop their Internet presence for the purpose of lead generation will be asking themselves at some point. The best answer is that you really need to use both, and the good news is that WordPress can actually run almost everything you need.
Squeeze pages will always work best for direct advertising campaigns. Meaning, an instantaneous flow of targeted traffic. This is almost always paid traffic that comes directly from a solo newsletter ad, a pay-per-click campaign, sponsored links or banners and even radio or print advertising. In short squeeze pages work best when you’re buying advertisements and blasting them with very direct traffic.
However… If you want to reap the long-term lead generation benefits of being ranked in search engines than you have no other choice but to start your own blog. For this, there is no better software than WordPress. For 99% of small business owners and entrepreneurs out there, WordPress will be your best solution for a number of reasons.
Here’s Why You Should Setup Your WordPress Blog:
- WordPress is a blogging software, it’s your blog and website all rolled into one and it’s easy to setup and cheap to maintain.
- WordPress features a one click update system you can always easily upgrade to the latest version of the software.
- There are literally thousands of theme designers out there and the design options you have (without knowing any design yourself) is pretty limitless.
- Google, Yahoo, Bing and other search engines love WordPress blogs.
Probably the most useful feature with WordPress for the small business owner is the addition of what’s called “plugins”. Now, “plugins” are simply what the name implies, they are extra software modules that add functionality that can literally be “plugged in” to your WordPress blog with a couple clicks. These add a pile of very useful features to your website without you having to know code, or hire programmers. This stuff is genius actually and has changed the way designers (and marketers) build websites!
See those social media tabs on the right of our website? That’s a “plugin” called Viral Social Slider. For less than the cost of a large Pizza we added that sweet looking social media integration and the setup was a simple click, click, and a couple copy/pastes of our social URLS. Voila… And it’s this kind of functionality I’m referring to that is beneficial for the small business or home based business owner. And that’s only 1 plugin, we run almost 20 different plugins on this site (you don’t run this many unless you know what you’re doing though!) that provide us all kinds of different functionality, like the callout box below for example.
[box color=”blue-vibrant” type=”square” icon=”blackboard”]This is another example of a WordPress Plugin functionality that I can add to my content in just a couple clicks. No design skills, no crazy coding, it just flat out works. I can highlight any content, change it to a different color, even change that little blackboard icon to something else.[/box]
I must warn you though, once you start playing around with plugins you’ll quickly get addicted because there is just so many to choose from, that do so many different cools things from improving your SEO, to adding graphics, custom video players, social media integration, and tons more.
Wordpress Blogs or Squeeze Pages For SEO?
OK, sorry for rambling out the plugins, I just get all nerd excited over the cool stuff they and the time (and money) they save me. But now, it’s time to talk about the money they can make you and that’s with the Benefits of SEO and web traffic. Search Engine Optimization. A few years ago it was nothing to get a lead capture page or squeeze page ranked in Google and other search engines for your targeted keywords just by throwing up a page and purchasing a bunch of spammy links to the site (this practice was ridiculously overdone by many Networkers – even some of the big names!). You could rank your lead capture pages in a period of days sometimes. Nowadays, especially with the latest Panda and Penguin updates ranking squeeze pages has become very difficult, and a little ineffective.
Why Are Squeeze Pages Ineffective For SEO?
Because searchers don’t want to find the first page of search results filled with lead capture pages. Would you? Probably not… You want information fast so you typically gravitate towards the sites that provide you the information you searched for. Google, Yahoo and Bing wouldn’t see get very many searches if the searcher knew every site would be an attempt at grabbing their contact details before giving out any information.
This doesn’t mean you can’t try and capture leads from your web traffic…. What this means is that you’d better start offering up a salad bar of fresh and exciting content (information) for them “in addition” to your attempt at getting them to subscribe to your personal confirmed mailing list. This is where WordPress comes into the picture.
Why Are WordPress Blogs So Effective For SEO?
This is going to be a short, not scientific answer because I don’t want to bore you but a WordPress Blog is effective for SEO because it provides an outlet for you to write about and publish information about your company, products, opportunity, training, reviews and more. This in turn provides Google, Yahoo and Bing with a ton of fresh and interesting content which they love to index and eventually rank (if you’ve done right!). Wordpress makes all of this fairly easy to do especially with some of the additional SEO plugins available. With plugins like All-In-One-SEO or SEOPressor you can quickly learn how to properly create posts that will target keywords you’d like to rank for.
For Example… Maybe you’ve just joined a brand new networking opportunity with a line of super exciting weight loss products that people are starting to see mega success with. The company is only 6 months old, Google, Yahoo and Bing barely even know they exist… However, with the growing word-of-mouth campaign there are new searchers hitting the web everyday looking for information on the products. An astute networker, with their own blog could be making such posts as:
“XYZ Company Product Reviews” or “XYZ Product Review”
Because there is very low competition, you’ve got an incredible opportunity to be one of the first people to rank your blog in the search engines when people seek out that specific company, opportunity or product line. This will work for you 24/7/365 generating new prospects and sometimes even product sales directly through your website until the competition heats up and then you’ll need to actually “focus” more intently on your Internet Marketing if you want to stay ranked. There are hundreds of Networkers who’ve been quick-on-the-draw and set themselves to capitalize on this search traffic. You should too! It’s money making traffic.
Can You Still Use Squeeze Pages With WordPress?
Yes, of course! You can do this multiple ways with WordPress. One way is to signup with EZLeadCapture and use our pretty contact form builder and autoresponder system to add lead capture functionality into your blog. You can also build squeeze pages with our system and “link” to them from your WordPress site menu (you must have a theme that supports the custom menu function) or you can even host lead capture pages on your own hosting account (this makes them a part of your site eg www.yoursite.com/special-offer). There are also a number of plugins out there that will add squeeze page templates and functionality to your WordPress blog as well.
That’s really just the tip of the iceburg with WordPress and SEO. We’ll be adding many more articles on how to setup and optimize your blog as well as how to integrate EZLeadCapture lead capture tools into your WordPress website so that you can start generating real time leads for your business.
